Climate Change Pulse

Visualizing the intersection of natural disasters and social media

Explore Visualization

Executive Summary

Climate Change Pulse is an interactive web tool that visualizes natural disasters on a world map, overlaid with social media reactions. This project aims to explore the connection between environmental catastrophes and public sentiment.

How It Works

Our visualization tool allows you to:

  • Scroll through years to see historical disaster patterns
  • Click on disaster markers (red dots) to view tweets within a 1000-mile radius
  • Analyze temperature changes across different regions
  • Explore correlations between disaster events and public sentiment

Research Background

Our research utilizes datasets from the "Climate Change Twitter Dataset" research initiative by Dimitrios Effrosynidis et al. (2022). This collection includes over fifteen million data points spanning thirteen years related to climate change discussions on social media.

We employ Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology to provide intelligent answers to your climate-related questions, drawing upon our comprehensive dataset.
